ABOUT
Time To Talk is a Ted Talk inspired event that began in 2018 that presses on issues that need to be addressed. In the year 2020 itself, there is an increasing frequency of reports on baby dumping, rape, unplanned pregnancies, sexual harassment, pedophilia etc. Our society's ignorance of sexual health and rights is believed to be the source to this problem. The emphasis on the need for Sex Education starts to show when statistics related to moral issues such as free mixing, babies born out of wedlock, drug abuse and addiction, rape, theft, prostitution, and sex out of wedlock starts to increase rapidly from time to time. The desire to know more about matters related to sex is believed to be the source of this problem.
In the case of Islamic countries, Sex Education is still not being taught widely, namely Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Elements of Sex Education are inserted in some subjects and discussed only superficially.
Recently, a girl who possibly gave birth at age 12 has provoked a serious political debate over the high rate of teenage pregnancies in Malaysia. Politicians started to suggest a new single subject on Sex Education. The adverse consequences of early sexual initiation, like increased lifetime sexual partner, unwanted pregnancies, and sexually transmitted infections are issues of concern here, as a Muslim country.
OBJECTIVE
To provide an insight regarding the need of Sex Education in Malaysia and further combat the existing social issues, especially amongst youth, from the lacking of comprehensive Sex Education.
